Bring ALL of You to the Table

I have a confession I have to make….I was in a yoga class on Friday, and the theme for the class was “Make room for ALL of you”.

But Krysta, what does that actually mean? Like my whole physical body? My thoughts?

Yes, but this teacher took it a step further and reminded us that we have to accept all of the pieces and systems of ourselves that we’ve built over time.

That version of you that had to be hyper independent? Or the one deeply protected your feelings around others? Or the one that had to take care of everyone else at the expense of yourself?

All of those versions of yourself helped build who you are today. But oftentimes, we want to shove those versions of ourselves into a closet because we are ashamed or think that somehow the version we are today is “better” than those that came before.

When in actuality, they are still a part of you.

This is where my confession comes into play because while I was working and sweating on my mat, I realized that I am and have been guilty of hiding pieces of myself to make myself more palatable for the place of life I’m in.

Oof.

And I think I knew I was doing it. Truthfully, it’s why I stepped back from posting so much because I felt like everything I was doing was curated.

So here are all the pieces of me that I am choosing and inviting back to the table.

  • The older sister who felt like she was responsible for everyone else’s feelings.

  • The hyper-independent young adult who learned she could only depend on herself.

  • The crazy horse girl who accepts that one day she will have horses again, but that time is not now.

  • The girl who traveled across several states with her two horses and her dog for a job that nearly destroyed her.

  • The wife who has found a soft place to land with an amazing husband who cherishes her for everything she is and everything she is not.

  • The woman who struggled with her body and finally found a safe place to move in a way that felt right. (enter stage right….yoga).

  • That same woman who felt called to deepen her own practice of yoga and take up the platform to share that same passion with others.

  • The woman who works with farmers and ranchers to share their story because she believes that knowing where our food comes from is of the utmost importance.

  • The woman who hunts because she believes that conservation is critical for the environment, and being self-sustainable in a world that is the most dependent it’s ever been is critical.

Whew….ya’ll, I am not going to lie, I am pretty sure I am shaking while typing this out. And truthfully, this wasn’t where I was going to go with this today, but apparently it’s what I needed, and I hope you took something powerful from this as well.

Biggest Takeaway: Make space for ALL of you at the table. Because all of those versions of you deserve it, they protected you when you needed it most. They helped build you into the person you are today.

I encourage you to reflect on how this message made you feel. Maybe your body automatically wanted to reject it. Maybe it deeply touched you. Maybe…just maybe, you’re hiding versions of yourself also.

If this resonated with you today, let me know. I’d love to hear what you took away from it.

Much love,

Krysta
