When Was the Last Time You Took a Good Look in the Mirror?
Opening with a hard hitter this morning….when was the last time you truly looked at yourself in the mirror and really looked at yourself? Not just your body, but your True Self.
Maybe you’ve heard of Mirror Work, maybe not, but for some reason, my heart is screaming that someone needs to hear this. And I should have prefaced this with the fact that we are taking this week off from our chakra series, but we will get back to it next week.
Mirror work is actually just what it sounds like. Although seemingly simple in theory, it is pretty difficult for a couple of reasons.
I don’t know about you, but no one likes looking at themselves in the mirror.
Sitting in the quiet can be hard all on its own without facing ourselves.
Ignoring the need to fidget is HARD.
I don’t want this to deter you, but maybe encourage you to sit with the discomfort. I have to tell you, the inspiration for this week came from something I was faced with last week, and I was frustrated and didn’t understand. But I thought the best way to face what I was feeling, was head-on.
Sometimes it takes physically looking at what you're struggling with (whether you are aware of it or not) head-on. And most of the time? Something will show up that you didn’t even realize was an issue.
And I know you might be thinking….Krysta, I’m too busy for this.
I hear you. I really do. Who has time to sit in front of a mirror and look at themselves?
The answer is everyone should. You could start this practice with just 3 minutes. Any three minutes in your day is all you need. Then, just let the thoughts come and go. Not judging, just noticing. Maybe keep a journal close so you can address feelings as they come up.
Slowing down is hard work. But it’s ESSENTIAL for growth.
One of my goals as a yoga teacher and business owner is to help both students and clients be their best selves. And as high performing women who have a lot of shit to do…we don’t often take a step back and assess what we actually need.
I am giving you permission. 3 minutes. You, the mirror, and a notebook. Take a step back and see what looks back at you. This is a deeply personal practice and it’s going to be easy to write this week off. I encourage you to lean in. Try it. And see what happens.
Holding space for you this week. Holler if you want to share what’s on your heart. ❤️
